Identity and the City is a call for the definition of an identity to serve as a general frame for a free and creative environment benefiting all elements of the Jordanian society. The collaborative project to shape a unique social, cultural and artistic identity emphasizes the role of artists as citizens and initiators of change to reclaim the space we live in and to reflect the active engagement of the people of this region with Human Rights. With the help of the Drosos Foundation, Al Ma’amal 612 Art Productions provides the opportunity for young artists of Jordan to come together and create a collective art movement. An outreach initiative extends the impact of the movement to Jordanian youth from less advantaged areas of the region. They will be exposed to the core ideas of Human Rights and work together with young, mid-career artists to create innovative art projects. We are battling the negative and one-sided representations of our cultural identity through peaceful means and impact on the way our living space is portrayed; but more importantly, we are fighting to unite behind a vision for the future.
