Cinema in Refuge
“Cinema in Refuge” is a travelling human rights film festival, organized by Ma3mal 612 Art Productions, to observe the journey of displaced peoples and their quest for their inherent right to live in dignity.
The initial idea of the program stemmed from Karama Human Rights Film Festival, under which falls this project. And came in accordance with the theme of the Karama HRFF 2014’s theme “War and Displacement” through which Karama HRFF offered the opportunity to the wider general public to be confronted by a different perspective on the addressed issues and to explore the effects of displacement on both communities and individuals.; the program sheds light on the current circumstances in the aftermath of the Arab Revolutions, the crises in Syria, Iraq and Gaza, and the rise of extremism in the name of religion, which all caused civilians to leave their home countries and towns.
Therefore, and in response to the horrific events that have plagued the Arab world since 2011, and have led to a confused artistic identity; where cultural and artistic representations are being demolished and marginalized, in favor of more pressing humanitarian needs such a shelter, healthcare and food.
Ma3mal 612, sensed the need to capitalize on its experience in human rights film festivals, outreach screenings and related cultural events, created this specialized program that would take place as an arts-driven advocate for Human Rights.
The cinema in Refuge program includes film screenings in an attempt to expose the public to other forms of images and expression emerging from inside war affected areas, so that news channels, journalism and the Internet don’t become our only sources for information.
The first phase was covered by several news agencies, TV and Radio stations in Jordan and internationally, and supported by IMS at the Jordan station.
In 2016, “CIR” is to be held in Lebanon and Turkey

From Amman to Gaza with Hope
‘’From Amman to Gaza…with Hope’’ is part of KHRFF mid-cycle events, in which a number of human rights themed films of all genres have been screened in Gaza. The event is organized in cooperation with Lama Film Group, headed by the film director Khalil Elmozayen and in collaboration with other film directors and cultural practitioners in Gaza.
Intersecting with “The International Day of Social Justice” on February 20, 2015, the event is devoted to the people of Gaza who continue to live under inhuman conditions caused by the occupation measures including the blockade imposed since 2007 which created dreadful life conditions as well as three consecutive wars that damaged the Gaza Strip infrastructure and left a large number of injured, disabled and dead.
‘’From Amman to Gaza … with Hope’’ is organized to shed light on the harsh living conditions in Gaza and of Gazans and to pose a strong statement of condemnation of the cruel opposition imposed by the Israeli Occupation on a whole nation.
This event is partially funded by ‘’Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC)’’ and organized by Karama Human Rights Film Festival and Ma3mal 612-Think Factory.
